Mardi Gras

I was shocked when I saw that I had created seven new photo albums on my desktop and not scanned them for my pictures for the blog. Mardi Gras seems so long ago, but all it took was a lengthy browse through my pictures from the day to bring back the vivid memories of the colours, sights and sounds. I will remember forever the effort that people made with their make-up and costumes. The people of New Orleans have so much pride in their city, it is something I have never experienced before. The longer I stay here, the more I grow to love it.

An attempt at the French Quarter

After reading (what feels like a thousand) photography books, I took full advantage of my Dad being here and used him as a 'kid wrangler'. I had wanted to get some pictures of Dragon in the quarter for a while, but had not been brave enough to go out there and actually do it. It was a little chilly, but perfectly overcast. F2.8 was a little too wide, but f3 worked a little better and gave a small degree of overexposure which I like. It was a fun day, but I feel like a got a few great shots of my little one and his 'hot dog' (Mickey Mouse).

Audubon Park

For all of the problems I have had adjusting to life in the USA, Audubon Park is one of the few places where I feel completely at home. A 1.7 mile track encircles a stunning park full of old oak trees, a nine hole golf course and kiddies play areas. The people that you see in the park are always happy, whether walking their dogs or just getting in some much needed exercise (after the decadent New Orleans food!). The relaxed atmosphere in this park makes it easy to take beautiful, relaxed and fun photographs. Here are a few of my dragon boy having a wonderful time playing with his Daddy.

Finding the light

Yesterday, Eddie, Dragonboy and I went to the park on Bonnabel. I noticed the last time I was there how pretty the sky became just before sunset, and so we went in search of the 'golden light'. I wanted to take pictures outside of the play area, but Dragon had other ideas and wanted inside of the rails! He did let me take a few nice shots before I had to give in though, who could say no to this face?!
